It seems to be good advice that is being offered here on the forum regarding Insurance Companies and these Mitigation type companies that are affiliated with "the insurance company" - Yes, insurance companies are out to pay the very least that they can get away with- their so called list of approved mitigation type companies are indeed working with that insurance firm because of their mutual relationship in the very same cause- paying out the very least that they can- makes since to me that I would choose my own contractor and I would make sure that it was someone local. I would make sure that this contractor had a reputable office in my area because when things need to be fixed or a punch list finished I would want this person to be around where I can have my warrenty fullfilled. How can a contractor from another state possibly help me if on a hot July day my hvac goes out and I am down only for the weekend? A local person will be right there and will get on top of the situation so I can enjoy my lake home. Ask for insurance and liabilty proof- ask to see if this contractor has a building license which is a must in AL. Ask if this builder carries workmans comp insurance. If a contractor does not have all of this information than how do you know they will be around next year? Also, our local builders are the ones that were first on the scene offering many volunteer hours and are the ones that contribute to the local community - makes sense to me that I would seek out a local person that has not only MY interest in mind but also the community in which my home lies.
