I had one built two years ago. Had quotes from DU and LMDC. DU was slightly cheaper, but they had a job nearby and could start right away. DU did a great job and the remote control lift has been a great addition, especially docking in windy conditions. When pricing be sure to compare materials and specs. I visited a friend who bought on price and his dock/lift looks very dinky compared to mine. He has mentioned this several times.
Heres the spec sheet from DU:
Docks Unlimited Construction Specification Sheet Post – Pilings 8” – 10” in diameter or 6 x 6 treated post. Spacing – no more than 8 ft. O.C.. Post will be driven or set in concrete based on site conditions. Bracing – As practical, 2 x 6 bracing will be used on all outside corners and X bracing on walkways. Collars – Treated 2 x 10’s thru bolted to post to support joist except where tied directly to Rim Boards. Rim Boards – Main skirt around pier will be treated 2 x 10s attached to post via ½” Carriage Bolts. Joist – All joists will be treated 2 x 8’s 16 inches on center. Spans without support will be no greater than 8 ft. Decking - Standard 5/4’ radius edge 1 x 6 decking will be screwed down, jammed tight to allow for shrinkage. Other decking systems will be fastened as appropriate. Bumper – black or white, black being standard will be attached using a 1” galvanized clamping strip with stainless steel screws on 6” centers. Cleats – Lagged directly to main rim board with 6 inch Lag Bolts Beauty Band – Pressure treated 2 x 8, screwed to main rim boards to hide decking end grain. Fasteners – All bolts hot dipped galvanized, screws epoxy coated for treated wood. Hot dipped galvanized nails used only when driven under water. Roofing – Metal roofing is the standard quote, 29 gauge metal screwed to 2 x 4 purlins on 2 ft centers. Colors are optional. Other roof types can be specified.
