Well RR & JIM, Worked in VA & want a retirement in AL. I retired 3 years ago. My spouse still has another 4 years until retirement. I thought about and looked for a place on the Lake for several years and bought back in the Summer of 2001. Great lot with an old Russell Cabin. The cabin was hit by a tree last year during Ivan. I am currently working with an Architect & a builder for a new place this Spring. The initial plan was to always rebuild anyway.

Alabama is home for me and there are a lot of advantages and benefits to retiring in Alabama. They include close by family, better quality of life, no State Income Tax and the list goes on. One of my Brothers has a place on the Lake. We are on the same side of Lake but 11 miles apart via land travel.

We have had anywhere from two weeks to a month every year in the old cabin. The same will continue and maybe even more so until the spouse's retirement. It is a tremendous sanity check for the insanity of living in Northern VA (D.C. Metro area).

Hope that answers both of your question, and neither of you find fault with my reasoning and self justification. One day, I look forward to having both of you and others on the Forum as neighbors.
