Lake Watch is alive and well. See www.lakewatch.org and click on menu item "research" and then "publications" to see what they've been doing the last couple of years.

Now for the water wars. When the three governors decided they could fare better in court and withdrew from the ACT & ACF compacts, it eliminated the public's involvement in their negotiations and made it tough to get good information of any progress. There are three court cases winding their way through separate systems, and the most recent hearing was in Judge Budre's federal court in the Northern District (Birmingham) in April. She basically told a variety of challengers to sit on hold while a retired judge from California mediates between Georgia, Alabama and Florida. That process should end in August. However, not much will come of that because there are too many complicated issues to settle and at least two more courts to hear from. Ultimately it will be settled by the US Supreme Court and that's a long way off.

News reports out of Georgia tell a pretty grim story of possible water shortages. Reservoirs approaching all-time lows for this early in the summer. Clearly the issue of water rights will heat up as the lack of rain continues. I'll try to keep folks on the forum posted on the water wars situation as information comes available.
