you bring up a good point. As my kids go through the college selection process, it is evident that many schools have both strong and week areas. Auburn has more strong area than Alabama, and some of the schools you mentioned also have strong areas.

My daughter ( a HS senior) is interested in chemical engineering and will go to Ga Tech if she gets accepted (she is already accepted to Auburns engineering dept) . She chose Auburn over Alabama and Ga Tech over Auburn because of the quality of education. She is not choosing a football team.
