Question for cobra

Hey cobra.....I am using the same 2 laptops at the lake that I use in Bham. Both Dell computers running XP home edition. I use a wireless router (Dell router at the lake, LinkSys router in Bham). Incidentally, the router at the lake was previously used at home, and worked just fine. I don't think that my lake router could be defective, because if I bypass the router by hooking a data cable directly from the cable modem to my laptop, it does NOT work any better.
About the "3meg download from charter," I'm not quite sure. I know that is the download speed I have with my charter cable in Bham. Looking on my ComLink cable bills from the lake, it is listed just as "High Speed Internet access," so I am not sure about the actual speed. As far as I know, ComLink is the ONLY cable service for my specific area at the lake.
My wife called ComLink again today and got their standard answer....they will send a techie out.....again. Now I'm not the most computer literate guy, but the so-called tech they usually send out is a complete techno-idiot. Unfortunately, since we are only at the lake on the weekends, it is hard to get somebody at ComLink with more than 2 gray cells to help me on the weekend.
...........Thanks for your interest and help. BTW, I should probably change my handle to "Used2B4Golf", as the lake has changed my "priorities." (I'm ever hopeful to come up with a way to do both!!)
