An interesting thing that I encountered on my way up river was a man in a t-Shirt waving an orange shirt as I ran the channel. I heard him yell help as I flew by, so I cut my engine and swung back around to find out what his trouble was. He said he had run his boat up on the sand bar in the dark the night before as he was headed up river to fish for some stripes. He had spent the night on the sand bar. He wanted to get in my boat and have me take him up to the Alex City ramp, but I couldn't get into shore without bellying out. He was going to wade out to my boat, but then (happily) he gave me his brother's phone number and I called him. His brother didn't seem really happy for the wake up call, and it took a minute to sink in what I was telling him. He said he would get his brother in about an hour. I relayed the message, said good luck, and pushed the hotfoot to the floor...I was back in the tournament. I know several boats ran past this fellow without bothering to stop. If I weren't in a tournament, I would have done more, but I saw what I did as a reasonable compromise. Anyway, a fellow that runs his boat up on a bar at night when he is not properly preparred rightly deserves some discomfort as a lesson.
