Barr has a big axe to grind with the Republican Party and as a result is all over the place in his views. Think of him as anti-Republican more than pro anything else. Sort of like an Alabama fan whose two favorite teams are Bama and anybody playing Auburn. Hard to judge whether he was ever really a conservative or just played the role because that was the way to win in his very conservative district in Georgia. If I recall, he did not like the way his district was reconfigured and then he lost but its been a while. Since then he has gotten goofier and goofier. There is also an element of seeking attention and this is about the only way he can get some.
