Glad you found something we agree on ... but that is not the only two choices as you say. I am not in favor of any government progrom that takes away freedom of choice.

As I said ... if you are in a certain income bracket or unemployed, I would support some sort of government subsidy ... but it is still the individuals choice. I also favor incentives for good health. Make people responsible for their health rather than the next pill to fix them.

Lastly ... if someone chooses not to have health insurance and they get sick or in an accident that they would be responsible for ... then of course they are still treated, but, the hospital/doctors would have a right to garnish their wages, take property, put a lien on their estate etc ... for not purchasing insurance.

You make the penalty great, but you still give them freedom of choice, but you make the right choice the better alternative.
