The slide continues......interestingly, no first term President that had approval ratings below ~50% within 6 months of the election has been reelected (data goes back to Roosevelt). Possibly the only exception was Truman but there is no data from 6 months so it is hard to say for sure. Certainly none in the modern era has been.
