The second, related complaint is that leaks from the OCE, or statements about its investigations, tarnished the reputations of those it was investigating. Those initiating the investigation could remain anonymous, meaning that it was possible, at least theoretically, for entirely facetious charges to be made against a political target without any opportunity for the accused to question their accusers. (Supporters of the OCE said that flaw was a necessary evil to toughen oversight on Capitol Hill.)
But regardless, the changes do not “eliminate” the OCE, nor do they “gut” it. Moreover, criticism of the OCE has been bipartisan (though the case against it has not been clear-cut).
What is not bipartisan is the media’s “fake news” approach to the rule changes, which is both exaggerated and agenda-driven.

The 119-to-74 vote during a GOP conference meeting means that the House rules package expected to be adopted Tuesday, the first day of the 115th Congress, would rename the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) as the Office of Congressional Complaint Review and place it under the oversight of the House Ethics Committee.
Under the proposed new rules, the office could not employ a spokesman, investigate anonymous tips or refer criminal wrongdoing to prosecutors without the express consent of the Ethics Committee, which would gain the power to summarily end any OCE probe.
would rename it and make anoymous tips for criminal investigation a thing of the past. - wow look at that gutting and evisceration - yup would say it was a great first action - lets fix some more crap the liberals left and would not deal with.. Lets fix it so that people can get a fair hearing without having to also have a public opinion trial caused by an anonymous political hit ( at least till the legal one is taken care of ) Would love to see them pass a Harry Reid Law that makes it a a felony for a congressman to go before congress to make statements that are false and at a minumum punishable by removing them from their position in congress as well as stop abililty to run for future federal politlcal office. Allow their governer to appoint until an election could be taken care of.
Guess you are against due process and did not hear you complaining about democrats house rules when they were in majority. Go back to drinking Otis.
