Why would you think "catty" - because they are women?  Not every disagreement between women has something to do with being catty.

Apparently, the departed has an abrasive personality and Mrs. Trump and her staff are not the only ones to experience it.  Chief of Staff Kelly is not a fan either.  In fact, it seems like her only fan is Bolton, who is pretty abrasive himself.  

The last staw seems to be that she felt she should have a seat on AF 1, and was instead told that she had to make her own way to Africa.  That prompted a hissy on her part.  The expectation is that you will handle these things graciously, not pitch a fit.   Big egos are not uncommon in DC, however, one is not supposed to put one's on display and create discord.
