LOL, I posted about the suspicous decline in flu deaths and it morphed into a discussion of oil prices. Always fun to see where things head in these threads. As for the disparity it is usually all about competition. Put a wholeseller like Raceway or QT and prices magically drop. Have a single Shell, Chevron, etc. with no nearby competition and the prices are always higher. I recall back in the day when gas stations would engage in price wars. They finally realized that all were better off keeping prices about the same and as high as possible. frankly, they make most of their money off people coming inside to buy other stuff.
