I think the same thing.  That's a lot of jobs to abolish for a overly aggressive few.  People in NYC weren't too happy when crime was way up thanks to lax policing and voted in Bloomberg to fix the problem.  Not to mention what it does for tourism.  But it really shouldn't surprise anyone - typical knee-jerk reaction.
