In my experience this is a common mindset of the left. They ascribe unusual and totally unwarranted intellectual powers to the govt which is why they are so easily led by the nose. For some weird reason they give more credibility to a person if they work for the government rather than the private sector. It has been my long-term, significant experience working with government agencies that they are more likely to attract people who may not have the skills or drive to do well in the private sector. Not all, but most of the people I deal with at EPA, state agencies, NOAA, etc. could never make it in the private sector and are at best mediocre scientists, engineers, lawyers, etc.
And they simply refuse to understand what motivates people in government. They ascribe a level of altruism and honesty of govt employees which is at odds with our vast experience and what actually drives many of their decisions and public positions. It is a weird attribute of the left that cannot be explained other than they never grew up and need an authority figure to slavishly follow, to tell them what to do every moment of their lives rather than to think and do for themselves.
I tend toward Reagan's mantra that government isn't the solution to our problems, government is the problem.
