Is that his parents knew he was a danger and suffered from mental illness. They got him all the help they could and went so far as to have the police remove a weapon from him in the recent past. The problem is that even when the parents knew that he was ill, there was only so much that they could do -
I happen to agree with you that all gun sales should be subject to a background check, but having said that, I don't know how you would enforce it, until a tragedy happens as a result of private gun sale. Just look at Chicago and Baltimore.
