This is discussed extensively every couple of months. I don't believe that 490' is ever the goal of Alabama power. On the water level page the following is noted:
Full Pool = 490.0 MSL (Mean "Average"Feet Above Sea Level) Full pool is the highest normal level before flood stage.
"Highest normal level before flood stage"....... Now, it really doesn't make sense to maintain the level at the last possible level before flood. In my experience. 488-489 is really the norm during the height of summer.
It officially starts a slow drop after Labor Day. So, get ready.
