Ok- this seems to be getting off topic quickly! The topic is the majorettes- not the whole band and their performances. Yes, the changes to the majorettes are very obvious. They no longer wear the boots (I wore them in high school and have no problems from that- neither do most other colleges), they were forced to wear their hair in buns at the beginning of the season and not down, they are no longer all leading the band out- some are in the back row while flags/ dance teams replaced them, their uniforms are now so close to the flags/ dance teams' you can hardly tell the difference, they no longer march the way they used to- with the shoulders swaying and kinda leaning back, etc. etc. None of these are safety issues. I think the real issue is that the band director doesn't like majorettes. I personally know a couple of the majorettes and former majorettes. The ones I know are not happy with the changes but will not voice it for fear of being moved to the back of the band and making things worse. Thousands of letters have been sent in already. Fans are not happy with these changes- completely breaks tradition. Furthermore, other major sec colleges are not doing this and we will lose girls to them- they will certainly choose to go where majorettes are still true majorettes. I understand unity and cohesiveness within the band- but it has not been a problem for all of these years.
As far as the pregame entrance goes- I'm not the biggest fan and neither are many fans. Simply because again, it breaks all tradition of the pregame show. The band has been marching down the field playing the fight song for years and years and change is hard, yes, but tradition is another thing. It would be like the Tennessee band not making the "T" for the team to come out, the Alabama band not spelling Bama, etc. Change is hard, but I still like tradition. Just my opinion.
Yes, I will be sending a letter to 'save the majorettes'. Auburn fans have long been proud of their majorettes and quite frankly, so has the SEC as a whole. Not being politically incorrect or anything, but schools from the south have always been proud of their pretty girls- cheerleaders, majorettes, dance groups, etc.
