This afternoon, I walked out on the deck facing the lake when a very large bird (hawk, eagle??) immediately flew off a limb and was flying away. Suddenly, the bird released a grown squirrel from its claws and it fell with a thud to the ground near the water's edge. I saw him light in a tree across the slough so I grabbed my binocs and headed down toward the
lake to get a better look at the bird and check on the squirrel. As I approached the lakebottom, I came within 3 feet of stepping on a snake. The snake took off to the water. With my heart pounding, I glanced at the squirrel to see that he was lifeless with its jugular ripped out. That was enough excitement for me today....back to the basketball games!
