You are misinterpreting what i said. Money doesnt make someone snotty living the "society life" DOES. A select crowd here in montgomery are members of country clubs at a cost of between 10k and 20k per year. These are typically (not always) snotty people. If you ask them how they can rationalize paying that much for membership, they will tell you they love to play golf. Ten years ago that could have possibly made sense. However, the RTJ courses in Pville are much, much nicer than the country club courses in montgomery and can be played at much, much less cost. The reason those people are members is so they can rub elbows with the other wealthy. As far as my in-laws go, they are well off. My father-in-law flies jumbos for Fed Ex. They are not filthy rich, but they are also not snotty. They bought us a boat, bought themselves planes, but they live in a fairly modest home, drive regular vehicles, are not members of any country clubs, and did not spend money to enter their daughter (my wife) in cotillions and balls. My point is, what makes someone snotty, is when they either try to impress everyone esle with their wealth, or when they act like thier wealth elevates them to a high class of person.
