I am also interested in this subject. We're planning on starting our boathouse in Mid-June. We got prices on Trex and wood for the decking. My husband and I were involved in helping to build a playgorund in our hometown, and it was contructed primarily with Trex. MY job was to pre-drill thousands of holes for the screws. I didn't mind this, but a sub-contractor might. I can't tell you how many splinters I have dug out of my son's feet in the few weeks we've been at the lake from our wood (ready to fall in) pier, and for this reason, I am pushing for the Trex for the decking. We didn't get a quote on aluminum. Last summer, my husband and my son went with a friend and his son to try out their new boat. There was an aluminum pier, my son stepped off the boat and a trip to the emergancy room, a Tetanus shot and 8 stitches later,.... well you get the picture. THIS is the reason we didn't get a aluminum price quote. Not saying this wasn't a freak thing, but I don't want it happening again. I don't know the exact size of the boathouse my husband is getting price quotes on, but it will hold a 26 foot boat, with a 4 foot walk around pier on either side. The Trex decking price he got was around $25,000. this includes the roof and boat lift.
