I was raised in the Connecticut, lived in New Jersey, Atlanta, and Birmingham. I now live in the Florida Panhandle with a second residence on Lake Martin. I can attest that people are indeed generally friendlier in the South. A one finger redneck wave in the North can get you'll shot. I do indeed see Southern folks more capable of smiling at ya while they knife ya in the back.
