A little trick I installed on both houses was to purchase an expensive ½” pvc ball valve and install it right in front of the shower head. The shower at the lake place is a single handle that you turn right or left so far depending on the amount of hot to cold water ratio you want. There is no way to adjust the amount of water that comes out. When it is on, it is full bore. Now, I can simply reach up and cut the volume back while I am washing my hair or soaping up and open it up more when I need to. I also use the same method here in Hoover even though I can control the amount of flow with the lower permanent valve. But, when I use the permanent valve to change the volume of water, the ratio of hot to cold gets off. With the ball valve at the shower head, I can cut if down or up and the hot to cold ratio stays the same.
