I have a couple questions... was the use of Styrofoam banned on the lake? ie- used under docks for flotation etc.

AND... isn't burning it illegal? I know burning it releases MANY toxins and is NOT recommended as it actually only partially burns while the rest escapes in a deadly plume of carcinogens. My neighbor retrieved a large (2' x 2' x 3') piece of styrofoam from the lake and proceeded to burn it along with everything else in his woodpile. My wife and I were enjoying the dock and a swim at the time and were shocked that anyone would be foolish enough to burn this stuff. The pungent aroma alone would drive most folks nuts let alone knowing what's in it. Obviously our neighbor was unaware of any problem associated with burning it as their 3 yr old grandson was laughing and playing right along side them as they watched it 'burn' for several hours.I have attempted to communicate on some issue with my neighbor this past year which involved topics more concerning than just sports or weather and was met with a less than friendly attitude and rather than start anything, I opted to print out some info on the subject and put it in their mailbox. I also called the sheriff's office and asked about burning it and they put me on hold for about 10 minutes to find out. They could not answer my question but said they would 'look in to it'. I don't think that happened. THEN... three weeks later, my neighbor fired up the pit and put yet more styrofoam on their burn pile. I assume this is because A) they think the info they received is bogus or B) this is an attempt to be belligerent about burning this substance since they know someone nearby was bothered by it.

So... answers, opinions and suggestions are welcome.
