It is money STUPID. Not airconditioning.
Less than 4% of SO's generation capacity is hydro.
Southern Company subsidiaries operate hydroelectric, gas, coal, and
nuclear generation sources to generate approximately 200 terawatt-hours
of electricity. In 2009, coal represented 57 percent of the company's
output, followed by nuclear (23%) and natural gas (16%). Renewable hydroelectric power
represented 4 percent of Southern's generation. Coal-based generation
dropped significantly in 2009 from an average of 70% between 2005 and
2008
Lifer you better go back to EE school if that is how you think the grid works. Or just do a little research on Enron.
This is about money or water flow to make money for somebody.
Big questions is why are no other lakes going to flow some water?
