Lakeman and I have found something we can agree on!!

You are right, Lakeman. I screen job applicants every week, and many of them never make it past the initial written application and into a face-to-face interview. Most of the time, it's not because the applicant isn't qualified (though he-- or she-- usually isn't), it's because the written application and/or resume shows a distinct lack of ability to communicate effectively. Poor spelling and improper grammar can mean several things, all of them bad: lack of intelligence, lack of knowledge, apathy or just plain carelessness; all of these are attributes that we do NOT want at our company. If you don't care enough about what you have to say to state it correctly, why should anyone care about it, either?

Effective use of language is the key to effective communication, and communication is the backbone of society. If you don't believe me, try to go an entire day without communicating with anyone. One of the things you'll learn is that your lack of communication is a form of communication itself, and the message is never positive.

P.S.-- I have to say this, Lakeman... you mean't "lose," not "loose." (Sorry.)
