Lake Martin has been a totally different situation this year than the
projects on the Coosa River. Inflows into the Tallapoosa basin have
been considerably less than those into the Coosa basin. The Coosa basin
is also much larger. We have taken advantage of the flows that we have
experienced on the Coosa to bring two projects up early, Logan Martin
and Weiss. We have simply not had the water to do that on the
Tallapoosa, so there was really no need to seek variances on those
projects. We have almost stopped hydro generation operations on the
Tallapoosa except for those operations needed for environmental and
minimum flow requirements. We are doing all that we can to fill Martin
and Harris lakes, as we need that water for generation later in the
summer. It is also important for recreation and other uses throughout
the year.
