John, I had a 9 ordered, but cancelled out. After trying to fish schooling areas this past weekend, I wasn't sure if I was gungho enough to step up. Using a 7 wt., floating (wt. forward), and 9 foot or 7 foot leader (down to 8 lbs, tippet.) Fished off and on, 3 days and had one fairly good hit, and a couple of "boils.) Naturally had a few wind knots, but couldn't keep the line from twisting. Never had the problem, anywhere near like it was. Fly fished from a very early age until the girl stage. Was using a pencil popper, and a shad like fly with a fairly heavy saltwater hook that should have prevented twisting.. BTW, I was fishing for spots. Also, it looks like I may have to drop down to 6 wt. line, because the rod is going beyond "load." Good luck. I will probably go back to spinning until I get a few filet meals for the winter.
