I don't see a problem if the tree is on your property. It seems most of the undeveloped lake frontage either belongs to Russell Land or Alabama Power. There was a similar question about camping a few months back on the Forum.

Is there any public property on the lake with a tree you could tie a rope to? I do not know, so I am asking the question.

So dude, it is rather interesting how some folks seem to think they can do as they please on property that is not theirs. I would personally prefer to see you tie a rope to a tree than nail a blasted advertising sign to it.
