Saturday I was with a gent that prefered to fish for brim rather than stripes, but we got in an hour or two of looking for linesides. We picked up an 8 pound schoolie near the wires, but we weren't marking much.
There seems to be a couple of things going on right now: a) The few fish I do see are very deep (50'-60'). If you can stay on 'em, they'll come up to 35'-40' for brief periods (about an hour) apparently looking for something to eat. You can pick them up using small baits on down riggers when that happens. b) Some of us believe that a striper die off is occuring. There have been a number of good size fish floating between Kowaligia and the Sail Club recently. They don't eveidence any hook marks and have empty guts. It seems likely that they have 'hit the wall' in terms of finding a thermal refuge balanced with enough dissolved oxygent to keep them going.
Some heavy rains and cooler water would help turn that around. Soon I hope.
