I've had to deal with the nasty critters several times now, and found this site to have the best, most practical advice on squirrel problems:

Every time I return to this site, I'm amazed at the research and detail this person/company has put out on the web. For example, they did scientific experiments they did to see how far away you have to take them before they return (see the "Releasing Squirrels" section a few pages down):

"When we hit the 5-7 mile range, using a zig-zag pattern, returns were rare, maybe 1 out of 15-20."

Good luck. I tried the capture-and-release strategy for one round of infestation, but when they came back I invested in a break-action pellet gun!
