Hi Blue Tick, Congrats to your young adult. That is an impressive accomplishment.

If the weather is nice, you will probably love the drive up 81 that runs pretty much North & South through the Western part of Virginia. It is an absolutely beautiful drive and the traffic is not nearly as bad as 85 or 95. From 81 you will cut across on 66 to Manassas. You maybe familiar with the area, and I am boring you. Manassas is an old farm town with a nice reviatlized "old town area" along main street. A few enjoybable restauaraunts in the area. Most of Manassas is nice with some beautiful older and some high scale newer developments. It also has a less than desirable area where trouble can be found and is mostly is some of the newer Latino communities and the influx of MS13 gangs and such. I doubt he will even be getting close to that area. Then you do have the Manassas Battle Field which is a National Park and the scene of two major Civil War Battles. Something to do while you or he is there on a nice fall day.

The biggest warning is the traffic. Commuter hour(s) traffic is something to have night mares over and nothing that I can truely prepare you. I imagine that during rush hour, he will find commuting times of about an hour and a half each way without any major accidents or bottle necks. I do not know but he may be with a group and will be involved in carpooling. Gas prices in the area are currently about $2.60 a gallon but change from day to day. He had best top off in the Manasssas area as opposed to in the District for putting gas in his vehicle. If he is not carpooling, then he should give consideration to the Virgina Railway Express. It has a station in Manassas that runs into the District. It will either put him close to the Hill or place him at a Metro Subway station for the trains there. The systems are pretty clean and rather safe. Probably much safer than the traffic. The weather is similar to what he would expect at home. The humidity can be as bad as South East Asia.

You have probably already made your return flight arrangement, but Dulles is always my preference for flying either into or out. That is a quick easy trip from Manasssas and is a safe clean facility.

There is some beautiful farm country and numerous Nature Lover facilities in the area of Manassas. There are nature trail, bike trails and other recreational activities. When you get outside of the Metro area, Virginia is a truely beautiful State. Please let me know if there is anything else specifically I can do for you or any question I can try to answer.

Here is a LInk for the Virginia Railway Express that might help. I will also see if I can round up a map of the Metro Subway system and post a link for that.

Good to hear from you and let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with. Resectfully, Lamar
