Found this on t he homepage under News:

During Thursday’s Lake Martin Relicensing meeting each audience member wanting to address a question to the Alabama Power Company representatives were, themselves, asked to first announce their name and group affiliation. Most of those with questions identified themselves as lake property owners who were attending because of their interests in the future of Lake Martin.

A gentleman introduced himself to me during the lunch hour and asked if the Lake Martin area had a homeowners/boatowners (hobo) organization. I told him that the only operating group with the hobo name on this lake is the Coosa County Hobos. I mentioned that Lake Watch’s single purpose is water quality and that the umbrella group, Coalition of Associations at Lake Martin (CALM), is presently only open to membership of other groups and associations such as Lake Watch. The Lake Martin Resource Association has not operated as a group since losing their paid coordinator several years ago.

Perhaps now is the right time to start an organization of homeowners & boat owners. That is, potentially, a large number of individuals, families, and businesses in the tri-county Lake Martin area. Such an organization would have to require annual dues assessments of its members, usually $25, to cover the costs of newsletter printing, bulk mail stamp, postage, a worldwide web domain name, and a website. We can get guidance from hobo organizations that are active on Lake Harris/Wedowee and Lake Jordan.

I’m willing to help others to organize a new group but ten additional volunteers would be needed to get started and share the workload and as initial officers in the organization. Nobody would receive any form of compensation from hobo dues received. It would be strictly a volunteer force. If any of you share the interest expressed by the gentleman at today’s Relicensing meeting please phone me at (256) 825-2642, send an e-mail message to me at drheinzen@charter.net or send a letter to me at 316 Magnolia Drive, Dadeville, AL 36853. Please express whether your interest is as a dues paying member or as a volunteer officer/organizer.

Dave Heinzen
Chairman, Coalition of Associations at Lake Martin
