According to Madame Speaker Pelosi, our interpretation of the health care bill is correct. If you fail to buy health insurance you go to jail. I don't know about you but is there any other product you must purchase or you go to jail? And don't bother with the auto insurance analogy. You don't need car insurance if you don't own a car and you can choose not to own a car.

Well, if you dont pay a fine for not having insurance you will go to jail. So you have 3 solutions 1: buy health insurance 2: pay the fine for not having insurance 3: Quit work, say you are unable to work due to mental or health reasons. Hmmm...I wonder how many people will choose #3? This is no doubt another large stone placed upon our Americans backs...Enough stones on anyone or anything will eventually send it crashing to the ground.

Option 4 - go to jail and get free healthcare! Clearly not much of an option but it's a thought.

We are now generous enough to give up to 99 weeks unemployment benefits, so we have created more of the "entitled ones". Since they will not be able to pay their own healthcare premiums, we will be picking up that tab too. Everyone go ahead and change your payroll distributions to the DNC, they will forward the balance to the Hill after their administration fees are deducted.

I don't understand -- people that pay into unemployment get to collect unemployment when they are terminated through no fault of their own. So I'm not sure why you are calling them the "entitled" ones -- they paid into it. I know a few people right now that are collecting unemployment and without exception every one of them would rather be working than collecting considerably less on unemployment than they would otherwise get.
I guess you'd rather seem them starve.

No, I would rather see them get jobs. I have a friend who has been out of work for over a year now and is "waiting" for a job comparable to what he had to become available, rather than getting a job. Are you saying that we are all "entitled" to a job that we are qualified for, and should not have to take a cut in pay or status? I do not understand why anyone could be unemployed for over EIGHT years IF they wanted to work. They may have to get a job that is "beneath them", they may have to move, but they CAN get a job.

I don't quite get it. Is there an unemployment tax on wages or does the employer have to pay that? I don't remember seeing any unemployment tax coming out of my paycheck.

for regular unemployment insurance. That is a burden placed directly on the employers. However, the extended benefits are being paid by the federal government out of taxes paid (well, actually out of future taxes paid because we have a $1.2 trillion deficit) so in a way they will be contributing assuming they will pay federal taxes (which 46% of working folks do not). No one wants them to starve but I agree that some are holding out for a job making the same amount they did before being laid off rather than taking a lower paid position. I have also seen a number of recent articles about people that maintained their same lifestyle assuming they would find something sooner and are now panicking. I have a few friends that are in this boat and it is devastating as the end of the line comes closer.

The better answer of course would be policies that would result in job creation but instead we are getting porkulus plans that mostly protect government jobs and creates very few private sector jobs and higher taxes being proposed in the health care plan. None of these will or are even intended to reduce unemployment in the private sector.

In that case, I agree. We once had a neighbor like that. He wouldn't take a job for less than $85K per year or require him to show up before 9 am. So, instead of working, his house went into forclosure and he filed for bankruptsy.

I knew that Employers paid into unemployment insurance, but I thought that employees had a share in it too. Interesting.

It's ridiculous that people would refuse to take a job because it didn't pay as much as their last job. I know some people that are doing anything they can to keep body and soul together -- even taking Christmas jobs at Walmart, to keep a paycheck coming in. I've known single monthers that worked 2 jobs.

When I was growing up, my father told me over and over again that any paying job was honorable and better than taking a handout. I guess there are those that didn't hear that speech.

Apparently a bunch of them (you excepted) voted for Obama expecting that handout.

I think the biggest problem is that we no longer accept the responsibility of taking care of ourselves, our family and friends. And yes Hound, that is something that true parents TEACH their kids..

Have never filed for unemployment - even when I am not working. Didn't feel right about it, even though I'm 'entitled' to it. That could change at some point, but just can't do it.
