What is the best way to determine your boats value prior to putting it on the market? I used NADA - is that the way to go?

A really clean boat on lake martin may be worth more. But it's hard to sell anything right now.

I've found that NADA is a very good place to start but the condition of boats varies widely after they get to be a few years old and this makes a big difference. A boat left in the water or on a lift all year is probably worth less than NADA. A boat kept in a garage with minimal use may be worth more if you can find the right buyer. It is a buyers market right now.

Give the boat a real good cleaning. I mean really, really good. Take it too a shop and see just how healthy it is (kinda like getting a fisical). Get engine compression notes, see if all the nav. lights, gauges, pumps, switches, etc. works. If they don't, fix them. I mean fix everything!!!! Make sure that when you show it to someone, you can proudly say everything positive about the boat. You should not have to make several excuses about the boat. If you have service records, offer them. If you don't, your mechanic shop does! :o Ask for copies of them. If all the above is done, you can expect and will get top dollar, such as NADA suggest. Even on an older boat! My .02 worth.

Cat, will my Go Fast Whaler be ready for the Poker Run?

If folks know exactly what they are getting, the decision to buy is much easier. Anyone can see how the boat looks, but a stamp of approval on the things you can't see will mean a lot to most buyers.
