per the article on the homepage.
Anyone ever seen or heard of a credible Gator sighting on Lake Martin (not the blue and orange variety)? I never have in @20 years here. But, they are residents of Eufala, and that is not that far from LM's shores.

Gators are the reason we did not buy on lakes in florida and Lake Eufaula.

I haven't seen an alligator in my 30 years on LM and I don't think I'll ever see one. The reason is the water is so clear. There may be some up the creeks that feed the lake, I know there have been sightings in the Tallapoosa River near the Montgomery/Elmore line. I have a friend that used to farm that area and he tells of seeing a big one near one of his ponds.

Maybe nothing to worry about, yet. But some of the rivers/lakes I fished while living in North Florida had a healthy population of alligators that were not especially shy around people. Gave me the willies thinking about how close the gators were to swimmers/skiers without a clue they were there. UGH!

Nothing credible, but I do remember the rumor about the gator at the ski club many moons ago. I know it is just a rumor, but I still keep my head on a swivel whenever I fish anywhere close to there, just in case.

The story I read that unnerved me the most was a few years back when they caught a fairly large gator walking down the road somewhere in Elmore County. No question the climate is changing, protection of the gators is another element in their increase, and after being nearly wiped out in Ala a generation or two ago and confined only to the southernmost areas near Mobile and Florida line, they can (and will, and have) take up residence in this general area again. It's inevitable.

Now: I don't know enough about their habits and attitudes to know whether they would find Lake Martin in general a congenial abode. Hope not. Heck, on July 4th sometimes *I* don't find it a congenial abode and would gladly walk over to a quiet pond not too far away.

I like to enjoy the Lake by grabbing a noodle and floating around for hours wearing a hat and sunglasses. And I have to say I DO think about those guys from time to time.

Could really twist your second to last sentence. It might even get BigFoot Award consideration.
