DAMN, how tough is that?? Too tough?? Then you do not deserve the right to own an animal.
Case in Point: A beautiful mixed breed female Golden Retriever/Lab/etc with a gorgeous golden coat and light brown (hug me) eyes,,,, followed me around our place for 3 days last week. Slept on the porch at night. No aggresion. And, of course, NO TAGS!!! CRAP. Just had to feed her; how could we not??
Call to AC Animal Control in case we had to deliver her there.
During the last day she would show up with a different tennis ball in her mouth for play time. AHA! A local dog with a supply of tennis balls. And an owner who don't give a rat's behind.
I understand why people come to the lake and release their dogs/cats to run loose, after being caged/cooped up all week long. The dogs enjoy it and so do the owners. I recognize Sadie, Sally, Roscoe, Spookie, Elmo, Daisy, etc, etc, and they leave me a surprise in the lawn sometimes, and that is OK. (Kind of) And we have to referee dogfights sometimes, even though we don't own a dog. That ain't the point!!
The Message: Dog Owners?? Tag your dogs with a cell# so I can call you to verify that your much adored and poorly cared for animal is not a stray, in which case I take them to the Animal Shelter where they will PUT THEM DOWN, because you don't care.
Better yet, maybe a chip could be implanted in the animal to identify the owner, and have him put down??
If you have to let them run, at least give me the chance to contact you before they are destroyed.

RR and I agree with you 150%. Both of our dogs are collared/tagged and chipped.
Some coon hunters even have their dogs's ears tattooed.
My dogs were at a kennel some distance from here, and our postman actually recognized them and quoted both their names to the kennel owner.

I can't say it any better. You said it all. People that don't care for their livestock (dogs, cats, cattle) are violating biblical comandments & principles. They are dumping on the rest of the community that has to take over their responsibilities. They have always been with us.

People are with their pets the way they are with most other aspects of their lives - lazy and inconsiderate. Along with tagging/and or chipping pets - how about spending some time with them? The other day, my neighbor came over to borrow a tiller, I was inside but had been working in the backyard, so the gate was open. We turned the corner to go through the open gate and Maizy was lying down just inside. He said something about how his dogs are runners (got that right) and how we did a good job training Maizy. Then the telltale statement - "I guess you guys spend a lot more time outside with her".....

I share your frustration. Owning a pet is a choice. I will never understand people who choose to get a dog and don't do the basics to care for the animal.

to even mention a lost dog. Many people don't care about each other, much less their own dog. Pretty sad. Just the way it is?
Where's my cellphone? Gimme' the TV remote!! Life is good.
