stayed there during Winter, or otherwise, who can offer an opinion?? Beaches/Bars/Burgers/ ? That kind of advice. Trying to find a midway point on the beach to meet a couple of other old foggies from Lakeland, Fla. for New Years. Be kind. And, no, Gulf Shores ain't midway.
Thanks,,,,

Florida in the Panhandle during the winter is unpredictable. It can be 70 or 40. I imagine you can always get a place there in January and may want to wait to see the weather. St George is a  few miles from center of Apalachicola which is a neat port city. If you the stop over try Boss's in Apalach. Keep on mind it is an island and you get wind from the bay and the gulf. In the summer it is great.

Lots of places in Apalachicola... shopping, good restaurants such as the Owl, Boss Oyster, etc. If you go east on 98, you get to Carrabelle. That is a quaint fishing village from the past. That is about a half hour drive from St. George. Drive another 15 minutes and you get to Crooked River Grill and a golf course. Another 20 minutes east from there and you get to Angelo's Seafood at the bridge in Panacea. Good food although a little expensive. Want to really see old Florida, drive to Spring Creek Restaurant in Spring Creek. It is about 15 minutes from Panacea Better google map that one but it is a treat to see and the food is great. As for beaches, it all depends on weather. St. George Island is good and they have a state park there. There is no marina on St. George with the closest being in Apalachicola and then Carrabelle. Another interesting place is Alligator Point. Not much to do, nor any places to eat other than a marina bar at the marina there. But if you are looking for quiet, that is it. Good luck.
