Where's CAT? He'll weigh in soon, I'm sure, but I can give you my experience. I have a Merc twin prop that I love. Love the acceleration and handling at idle speed--given the opportunity I'd go with twin props in i/o. I've had one 205 cu in and it was weak outa the hole. The 350 has great low end torque. Had both Volvo's and Merc--no difference. Guess I'd lean toward the Volvo 350 Duo-prop. By all means buy MPI--nothing better in a boat than fuel injection.

Both engines are GM 350 cu. in. The only difference is the operating systems, and of coarse the drive system. I'm with OSMS, they are both great products. The software is a little different, and we work on plenty of both. Forget the EFI or MPI thing though. All 5.7 I/Os are either now. Now, how about yall fillin' up the lake so I can get busy up there.
CAT, just outside the nut house. LOL.

I know you old time mechanic types love your carbs, but I'll never own another boat without fuel injection.....I'm with OSMS on that one.

Personal opinion......nobody makes a better engine than Volvo. We have the 5.7L duo prop on our 26' Chris Craft deck boat and other than a little problem with the connection between the engine and outdrive we have only changed the oil. Starts every time, runs great low maintenance on an 8 year old boat.

The 350 Merc is a 5.7 engine. I checked the Merc website and misread the cu. in.

I like the Merc. personally...I have noticed parts are a little cheaper...I have a 5.0 or 305 in My boat and have had very little issues with it..I now have over 900hrs on her and she runs great.....just my 2 cents worth..lol

No doubt parts are cheaper on a Merc. From this huge sample of one each, it sounds like you can't go wrong either way.
