Subject:   Can the water be any better or the greens worse?!?

Spent the weekend at the lake with my wife and the water is just spectacular.  Not only is it higher than I have ever seen this time of year but the temperature is absolutely perfect.  And with no wind and very little boat traffic we were able to stop in the middle of open areas and just float along.  Was really wonderful and relaxing since I didn't have fifteen kids wanting non-stop entertainment.

Sadly, I partially screwed things up by playing Stillwaters on Friday and Lakewinds on Saturday.  Stillwaters is still in terrible shape and charging too much given the condition of the course.  I played there early in the summer and decided to give it another chance thinking a summer of great weather would help......I was wrong.  The greens have these little patches of green grass that bounces your ball and several of them had large patches of dead grass.  To charge $49 for 18 on Fridays and weekends is almost a crime.

As for Lakewinds, it is a much better deal for the money.  I will say that this golf course has the smallest greens on the planet earth and every one of them is domed.  The good news is if you can land a ball and get it to stay on one of these greens you can do it anywhere.  Despite the tiny greens it is a typical inexpensive muni and worth the price you pay.  In pretty good shape and the greens rolled reasonably true.  Good place to learn how to play golf.  We played with PikeSki and his lovely wife and they came over Saturday night for a steak dinner.  Very nice weekend in all!

It was a perfect lake weekend.  Virtually no boats on the water and beautiful weather.  Even went by Chucks for a pizza and was served in about 20 minutes.

You are right about the greens at Lake Winds -  I call them bottle caps.  Tends to focus the mind on the approach.

No kidding.  No such thing as bump and run onto those greens.  Use the loft wedge to drop the ball softly onto the green or get so close you can putt it onto the surface.  Even then keeping the ball on the green can be a challenge. Also, the tee boxes are so close to the greens it can be a little scary.  But again, it is what it is, a small municipal that is relatively inexpensive to play and kept in decent shape.

Stillwaters is another matter altogether.

Sorry to hear about Still Waters, but thanks for the warning.  With a little maintenance, they would probably get more traffic, which would pay for the maintenance.  Raising green fees while the course deteriorates is a loosing proposition.

I have to hit it a lot further than her.......she got lucky............I think she shaves strokes...........OK, I pretty much suck at golf......there, I said it......are you happy now?  Anyway, despite the condition of the course and my lack of skill at golf, it sure beat the alternative of what I would have been doing at home.  :-)

Well said Sir.  Rodney helped her shave strokes.

Rodney was off in the woods with me looking for our lost golf balls.........when they weren't in the water.........she is so scrupulous that shaving strokes is not even close to her DNA....but I had to try for some excuse other than the truth.
