We have millions of bugs coming into our house lights at night.  They die overnight. We have tried drawing them away from house with other lights away from house but they still come in. Any ideas to get rid of them?

We get them also.  I just vaccum them up every morning.  They are usually dead when we get up unless my 10 year old sleeps with the bathroom light on.  Then they get vaccumed as well.

That's what I'm doing...lots of vacuuming! But would really like find out whats causing them, how to get rid of them and why they love our lights and not our neighbors too.

We have screens on and windows are closed. They come in when we open the doors to come and go.  We even try slipping out a door in an area with no lights on and they still come in!

They are termite swarmers, more than likely.  Turn off all of your outside lights, and close the blinds so light doesnt get out of the house.  They are even attracted to bathroom exhaust lights and will go inside your house through the vent.

Hate to be bearer of bad news, but it's that time of year.

The dead bugs just turn to a powdery matter when you touch them. Does that sound like termites? Guess I need to be calling the exterminator again!?

If they are white and look like big knats, then I think everyone has the problem this time of the year from late afternoon till...  They do seem to be worse this spring, maybe they liked the cold winter, but as soon as it turns hot weather they'll move on, die, or something.

They could be NSA bugs. I don't have the problem, but then I voted for Obama. If the mesh on your screens is too large, knats can get through. The county should have someone who can ID the bugs.

At least I have not seen any of those nasty May Flys we sometimes see in the spring.. at least not near us. 

Have seen some gnats... but not at night. So the bugs  you are seeing are a mystery. Hope they leave soon!

Dont think they are termites, sewer bugs or moths. We are keeping all the outside lights off, blinds closed and only turning on lights in house when necessary and that is helping. Sure wish I knew how to make them leave! Need our lights on for Summer Fun on the lake.

You can't get rid of them.  They are worse at certain times of the year and for us it's just part of being at the lake.  I bought a good rechargeable handheld vacuum just for that problem.....each morning I suck up thousands of dead bugs at the base of our lamps.

Are you new to central Alabama? Lots of spring rain and great conditions for bug "blooms" are better this year. What can you do? Not much. If you have damp areas around the house try to clear them out and eliminate breeding areas. If you think this is bad wait until you see the mosquitoes this year. Make sure any water collectors around your house are eliminated.
