Panicked GOP leaders say they still have options for preventing Trump from winning the GOP nomination

What they can do depends on whether he has sufficient delegates before the convention.  If he does, then anything they do to deny him the nomination will be an unmitigated disaster.  If he doesn't and all the other delegates line up against him and for Cruz or Rubio then they will be the nominee, not him.  And that will likewise be an unmitigated disaster because he will go 3rd party which would ensure Hillary wins.  Frankly at this point there are only two options.  One, he is the nominee.  Two, he isn't and goes 3rd party.

You know that they must be desperate to trot out Mitt Romney.  I suspect that one option they are considering  is to draft Romney from the floor of the convention.  That will guarentee a win for Hillary Clinton in the General Election.

I'm actually fascinated wondering what it is about Trump that has the "establishment" so upset.  Are they afraid he won't play the game?  Which is exactly why he is the front runner.

Hound, I too found that one interesting.  The beltway GOP still do not understand the appeal of Trump and the fact that trotting out someone like Romney only hardens the resolve of Trump supporters.  It reinforces their belief that he will not be influenced by the so-called establishment and the donor class.  The problem in my view is that he is not a social or fiscal conservative and while he may actually follow through on the immigration issue he is likely to do a lot of other things that may drive them crazy.  Who really knows what he will do.
