I was flyfishing in my kayak yesterday for about an hour before sunset. I noticed two or three bait clusters that were driven to the top. I was able to get to ones of them but I never got a bite (definitely a lack of skill here). But, I thought it was nice to see some evidence of topwater activity by (what I assume were) stripes.

If you were in open water, then they were probably stripes or white bass. The spots are usually closer to shore or near offshore structure like long points and rocks. Of course, you never know what you will catch around the shad this time of year.
