You’ve probably heard some in Alabama like WIX, FLY, and BUTEYE say “thank goodness for Mississippi.”

Well, in the case of a new ranking from US News & World Report, the more accurate description would be “thank goodness for Louisiana” which is ranked 50. Mississippi is ranked 48…..better than Alabama 49. Georgia is ranked 17 and Florida 13.

The ranking looked at 80 metrics, including economy, infrastructure, public safety, fiscal stability and opportunities for residents, to determine the best and worst states. The rankings also factored in healthcare, education, crime and corrections and the natural environment.

RANK STATE 49 Alabama

HEALTHCARE 46

EDUCATION 50 DEAD LAST.... WIX likes to  scream Atlanta, Baltimore, inner city

ECONOMY 45

INFRASTRUCTURE 38

OPPORTUNITY 45

FISCALSTABILITY 23

CRIME&CORRECTIONS 45

NATURALENVIRONMENT 35

Before you start screaming that’s unfair, they ranked 10 that voted for Trump in the top 20.

You guys need to worry about Alabama and quit worrying about the inner cities. Solve your own problems with your Republican leaders supporting the lowest education rankings. Florida is #3 and Alabama #50 for education. WHY?????????????? Your kids and grandkids are the ones to suffer.

She wonders if maybe part of Alabama's slide might be attributed to the extensive damage from Hurricane Dorian!

So Alabama ranks 37 in healthcare access, 39 in healthcare quality, and 47 in public health (???) which is not really detailed, and yet ranks 46th in healthcare?  I call BS.  This alone causes me to read no further.  Assinine rankings for simpletons.

they might just be accurate appraisals that are highly embarrassing to those who are unwilling to ever consider that any negative aspects to any part of the reddest areas of America could ever be true.

Now, I believe you are a doctor...I would think a doctor would know that ''healthcare quality, healthcare access, public health and healthcare in general'' are 4 separate things with the word ''health'' tying them loosely together. One does not equal nor even necessarily directly relate to the other 3.

Acccurate appraisals?  You live in a dreamworld Archie.  This simpleton survey was nothing more than asking citizens where they thought their state gov't should direct tax dollars and effort.  The only redeeming value of the survey was the number of metrics.   No mention of who were asked.  Urban, Rural, ethnicity, sex, etc was left up to your imagination.  They asked the same questions for 3 years and averaged it out.  How you proceed from asking individuals where there state should spend resources to using that data to assign an arbitrary state rank is a bit of a stretch for me.  Same with US News' college rankings, no academician I know views those reports with any degree of seriousness.

Regarding healthcare, stay in your lane Archie.  There were not 4 metrics in this category.

Should never have questioned the ''metrics'' of a man with a private school education who on occasion lodges in Trump resorts.  Sorry to question so worthy a person.  Get off the high horse CRD! You are wrong about what the survey was about...I'll say again, do a little more research before you pop off.

Go take your meds, cocaine, meth....or whatever calms you down to a human level.  Your posts the last 24 hours are proof you are a very unstable dim-o-krap.  BTW, a huge help in regaining a tiny bit of reasonableness will be to stop reading and quoting CNN stats......

It's somewhat amazing how you can fit all the research for your posts into a 24 hour day. Does your sleeping hours consist of "sweet dreams" or are they all "nightmares" about Donald Trump?

Say all you want about Alabama but I will take living here over Atlanta, all of California, and any other places where Democrats have failed to provide leadership their constituents deserve.

considering the position of AL in these and most other statistics, that before you cast too many aspersions on Atlanta or CA or any other place, you might show some degree of concern about the quality of the Republican leadership of the people of the great and sovereign state of Alabama!  Just sayin...the truth hurts don't it Buteye.

You are so far off base on this subject it is not even worth trying to reply to your posts. I'm not aware that of any of the homeless conditions that are so prevalent in California exist in Alabama. Am I to believe that you don't have any empathy for the people in California who have to live with the conditions that now encompass their state? Are you in agreement with the Democratic politicians who have allowed these conditions to fester to the point that health conditions are becoming worse than conditions that exist in "third world countries"? Who do you hold responsible for the "homeless" and "drug" related conditions that now exist in California?

Do you have any degree of concern about the "political leadership" of the people of the "great" State of California?

You say ''You are so off-base on this subject it is not even worth trying to reply to your post.'' and then you reply TWICE! Wow!

No I do not have any particular concern for the leadership of California (or Alabama for that matter), neither are what would be my preference, but if forced to choose I would opt for California...any way you stack it most people (I'm not saying all) would consider exisitng in California preferable to Alabama*.  I know you and most on this forum would not think that way but tell me honestly, if you stopped a thousand random non-residents of either state on the street across America and asked whether they would choose AL or CA what do you think the count would be?  Could it be if, the truth be known, that you are being a little too defensive regarding AL...are you perhaps a little insecure and/or embarrassed?

*  At least CA is not under Hurricane threat from May-Nov!! LOL

Bow Wow goes the Architect.  Besides, according to Archi they do not have those "tech Jobs" they just get low skill jobs like cutting his grass, fixing his deck, drywall, painting his house  - and for much cheaper then those damn Americans.

You telling someone to lighten up is the utmost in hypocrisy.  And beside that, there is nothing funny about john doe's posts.  His (many times) baseless accusations of racism are particularly galling and flat a$$ wrong.

I think reasonable conservatives who have a sense of humor would find most of the ''cartoons'' from JD at least worthy of a chuckle.  I am not conservative on most non-fiscal issues, but can you cite a single example where I complained when some of the usual suspects on this forum posted very non-PC jokes and cartoons about Barack Obama or Nancy Pelosi. I didn't complain because most of them were funny. As long as they are not libelous or cruel they are part of the political back and forth.

Neither insecure or embarrassed, but I do have feelings for the people in California who are having to endure the conditions that are the result of Democrats leadership(or should I say non-leadership). Choosing to live in Alabama vs. California is a no brainer. California is contnually ravaged by fires with the latest one in 2018 resulting in 8,527 fires, destroying 1,893,913 acres, and killing 97 civilians and six firefighters. In addition, California's history of earthquakes, landslides, and the current homeless, health, and drug addict conditions should be an embarrassment to those in political positions in California's state government.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         As usual, you have presented another one of your "what if" scenarios accompanied with "your" mindset about what the results would be if a thousand random non-residents of either state was asked to choose between Alabama or California. I'm telling you,"honestly", that I think the "majority" would choose ALABAMA. At present, New York, Illinois, and Calfornia are the top three states whose residents are moving to other states, with the majority of Californian's moving to Arizona and Nevada because they have no "state income tax. Why would anyone with any degree of intelligence want to move to a state where their "residents are leaving", especially after seriously considering the state affairs in California?

i will agree with you, especially after getting it from the horse"s mouth that San Fran building owners are now forced to paint their structures with urine proof paint.  What a mayor that Newsome is.

Yes, CA is 1st in residents leaving to go to other states, but it is also 2nd* in new residents moving in from other states. In net gain it is 2nd only to TX.  Of course this is actual new individuals not a percentage change. In percentage net increase several states including FL, GA and NC (but NOT AL) are ahead of CA.

* TX is 1st...unless you subtract Hispanics moving to TX.  I'm sure a lot of this forum would not consider gaining a lot of Hispanics a positive.  If you do not include Hispanics CA moves up to no 1!

Now Buteye, if you can decide without evidence that more people would select AL why do you get so upset for me to assume the opposite based on evidence from the census bureau of growth for each state?

To me, the only way to settle this discussion would be to let one thousand non-residents decide which state they woulgd move to. There is a lot of "plain old common sense" that I think would play into making a choice between Alabama and California. I provided my input on why I think the majority would choose Alabama and I stand by my vote. In a final analysis, what have we really accomplished by continuing to settle anything when we are always dealing with "what ifs"?
