My daughter remembers feeding the goats on the island when she was three. It's funny how the little things mean so much to kids. That was two years ago. Now I have a son that is two. Both kids beg to go see the goats every time we go for a boat ride (even though my son has never even seen them.) For two years we have circled the island having to use the excuse that they must be asleep somewhere else on the island. Even though she was only three the last time she saw the goats, she knew that it was part of a ritual of the Lake Martin experience. I want for my son to be able to experience what he's only been told about. Those that have small children know what it's like to see memories being made in their childrens minds that will stick with them through their adulthood the same as our memories of our younger days on the lake come back to us. I am willing to invest in providing a new herd of goats if there are a few more people that will help in the the cost of the purchase of the goats. Anybody feel the same way?

It would be great to see goats on the island again, except that they would suffer the same fate as all the others, which means that armed ignoramuses would start shooting them as soon as they ran out of snakes to use for target practice.

Know what you mean. 2-yrs ago, have pix of the goats in the shallows coming-up to the boat to get some veggies. Amazing pix. Last year, only saw the donkey. Haven't cruised-by this year but afraid that nothing will be there.

Does Auburn have some type of program/dept that can donate some critters? As BAJ states, however, take the risk of those innocent animals being used as targets by some in-breds.

We've sacrificed more goats from that Island than the oldest Pagan cult on Earth. If the goats don't swim out there on their own, we don't need to take them out there to die.

Its just another one of those things that used to make the Lake different from all the others. Be thankful you and your daughter got to experience it, and let it go.
