I use my old mouse pads to cover my hook points. Cut a circle out of the pad and make a slit to the center of the circle and slip it onto the treble hook and press down driving the hooks into the pad. You won't get stuck using this method.

My son and i ride on back of the truck on dirt roads and pick up aluminum cans while mom drives. The money goes in his savings account, plus great quality time together.
