Should we have to have the license before we can buy the vessel or show that we have taken the test? Don't we have to have a drivers license before we are allowed to drive a vehicle. What do these people think? Yes WP, please help! More boat license checks on the water and at the boat ramps.

If you drink enough beer you can dock anything.

We've all seen our share of idiots out there who don't know the stern from their a$$......acting wrecklessly.....potentially endangering me (and yes, all you other folks too!). I for one would be glad to see more "license checks." I certainly do not mind being pulled over to show my license and demonstrate that I can find the fire extinguisher and other items without wildly searching every hiding spot on my boat. Just the sight of others being pulled over makes the whole lot of us a little more cautious....and those who are caught without all the necessities, well it serves them right to win the ticket lottery.

If everyone were required to take the boating course and then the test before they got vessel license, we'd all be a lot safer. And I mean everyone, do away with the "grandfathering in". Just because you're over 50 doesn't always mean you know anything at all about driving a boat. I took the test, got my license and then decided to go to a boating course. I was shocked to find out how little I knew and had still passed the test to get my license.

I was grandfathered in when it became effective abck in the late 90's...but took the course in order to save money on insurance...amazed at what I didnt know even tho I had been here on the lake for 25 years at that point and boating for all of it....so..yes I agree...think everyone shd have to take the course...not just pass the test..BUT...you know how far that will go on appeal to 'the others'
