New to this forum and new to Lake Martin. In the past, we have not had to pay a much attention to the level as we do here. Our neighbor told us we need to have our boats out of the lake by Sept 2 or they were stuck on the lift until next year.

Is there a place to find this out or is my neighbor just going from past experience. Sept. 2 seems early!! What about our Labor Day bash???

Sounds like your neighbor has already started the Labor Day party.

Click on " more info." under " water level " on the main page and you will see the past two years activity plus the present years happenings. Watch the progress yourself to determine when to pull your boat out.

There is a good bit of GENERAL info available on this and other web sites about the water levels on Lake Martin. That info can be a guide to you, but you need to judge when to take your boat out by the water at the end of your dock and where you go to take the boat out at. 487.5 can leave some places ok while others are high and dry. Don’t take anyone’s word for it. Keep an eye on YOUR water level. If you do not live here full time, you need to check often or have a neighbor you trust. Sounds as if you doubt your neighbor. Once armed with the correct info it will stay fairly the same year after year. The bottom can build up depending on where you are at changing your depth. Final works….just look…..

Lower your boat in the water until it floats. Get a piece of black tape and mark you cable at the water level. Measure the depth from the tape to the bottom of the cradle. This is how much water you need to get your boat off the lift. Be sure to select the lowest cradle beam if one is lower that the other.

Next, measure your current water level at the lowest beam. Then determine how far the lake can fall before you lack enough water under your boat to float. For example, if you need 2 feet to float and have 5 feet water, you have three feet to give before you better start hopping.

Monitor lake level on this site.

My pontoon needs about 24 inches to float since I have a lift that goes between the pontoons (not under pontoons).

Just wondering if you live in the Blue Creek area? It sounds like we both have the same "helpful" neighbor who likes to scare newcomers and who likes to come across as an authority on everything related to Lake Martin. Last year was our first year on the lake and we were told the same thing about getting our boat out on Labor Day. As it turned out, we enjoyed our boat until the 3rd week of October. Just had to lengthen the lines and tied some cheap bouys on the pools of our slip. We also kept a close eye on the lake level via the website and made sure we were at the lake each week to check things out in person. Of course when you'll run out of water depends on how much water you started with (at full pool). The lake is so much more enjoyable after Labor Day without all the boat traffic. We find it much more relaxing, plus the water temp stays warm into October.

I am way back in a slough that comes out in front of Real Island.
It is not that I don't trust the neighbor but they are giving me info different from the seller. I have known the seller for many years and made other purchases from him. Never been told anything but the truth.

I'm just trying to get informed. This site has been a big help and my thanks to all!!
