Lake Martin is navigable on some days, but not all. On weekdays, other than holidays that fall during the week, Lake Martin is very navigable. There is not much boating traffic during those times, and the lake can be navigated at excessive high speeds effectively. However, during weekend daylight hours during the summer, Lake Martin is unnavigable . Most boats wonder around aimlessly going in every direction possible and as slow as possible (thats why the federal government deams Lake Martin not navigable). This situation lends itself to the operation of pontoon boats only. Guidelines suggest the operation of Personal Water Craft on Lake Martin be done at nighttime between the hours of 10:00pm and 3:00am. But, effective May 31st, 2006, the new Federal Guidelines suggest that during daylight hours in the summer months, Lake Martin will be navigable, thanks to a resolution signed by the LMPBA (lake martin power boat association) that limits boat traffic to unmuffled powerboats during those times and no speedlimit has been set forth at this time. I am sure you all will agree with these new rules, and i hope yall enjoy them as I will.

One little-known fact about Lake Martin is the existence of a submarine owned by one of our wealthiest ex-military lake residents. This boat remains submerged most of the time but has been know to surface rapidly and unexpectedly usually very late at night. Ya'll be careful
out there!

I have heard of this submarine! I saw it at a website called WWW.PIMPMYPOWERBOAT.COM. Seems as though back some years ago, a wealthy lakeproperty owner hit a rock and sank his pontoon boat. The only thing left of the boat was one pontoon. The owner took it back home and built a submarine out of the remaining pontoon. I think the first power it had was one of those "wafflehouse" eggbeater outboards. And it was not very effective. Being that outboards smoke the way they do, you could see the bubbles emerging from the water letting the smoke out, and the powerboats passing by could see the smoke, and avoid hitting it. That is all I remember about the website. What other information do you have on this submarine?

Yes, your information is pretty much correct......and it is fairly easy to know when you are sittin' dead on this smoking monster in the daytime.....at night---a totally different situation! If you are ever out there at 2 AM after
8 or 10 brewskis and get the feeling that you are suddenly being uplifted.......well, you are probably are!
