We are considering Lake Martin for retirement.. Do different areas have different personalities, or attract different type people ? We are presently in an area where many feel superior based on the fact that they have relocated south.

Yes, Yes, and a minority few.

The entire lake is a great place and I'm sure you will fit in somewhere...... depends on what you want. If you want quiet, consider the west/south west side. If you want more action, consider the south east. If you want to spend less, consider north/north east. All are great if they make you happy. This is obviously a generalization, so I'd suggest talking to neighbors in the areas you look.

I'm on the south west side and love it!! Good Luck!!!!!

Personally, I like to think that the people of Lake Martin are one big family.

Maybe I'm just tired, but if you could be more specific as to what your looking for, myself, or some of the others could help you.

"We are presently in an area where many feel superior based on the fact that they have relocated south." - I hope this isn't on Lake Martin, because I, or no one in my family have ever had this impression in the 50 something years of our family homestead on the Lake.

The only real trueism I am aware of is the congestion factor. The more congested an area is, the more yard dogs, kids, cars, trucks, ATV's, PWC's, and noise you will have....but some like it that way.....and, of course, the dogs will not poop in their own yards.

Hmmmm.... I think I know what you mean (?). You will find this area has mostly southerners - real ones- and other transplants that just fell in love with the lake and area. You can go to dinner and enjoy your meal without hearing people two tables over holler at each other if you know what I mean. (What is it about being raised in some parts of the northeast that make you deaf?).

This is a place where people value their word, know you name, wave, smile and are generally courteous.

It is a small community and the lake is really it. The rest is coming though and it won't be long now. Come take a look!

One thing to remember about the congestion problem. Even during the busiest part of the summer, the congestion is limited to weekends and holidays.

Thanks for the info and comments. We hope to be property owners within a year and full time residents in about 2 years.
